Is there in your opinion a pirate anime or manga on par or better than one piece.

:huh Animewise? Pirates are alot more intersting than your average ninja or samurai which is pretty worn out in anime. Out of all the anime i seen which include chibi gangsters i think pirates are the most intersting. Its probaly a morale issue rather than a plot problem.

Uh, maybe Vinland Saga? It's technically not about pirates, but it's damn close to it.

Maybe in Japan, since the concept of Pirates are almost in entirely Western. And to me, who's from the west, thinks that pirates are lame and kiddy stuff. I'd prefer a Samurai anime over a pirate one anyday. Maybe not a ninja one though (since Western ninja are stereotypically :ninja)

I've read this, it's decent, not special.

But if One Piece does not satisfy your lust for piracy in manga, then I guess it's a good option.

Best modern day pirate manga around.

On the topic of piracy, we might as well mention Vinland Saga as vikings are pirates.

Problem is, he means YARRR YO HO HO AND A BOTTLE OF RUM pirates as opposed to modern-day ruthless professionals.

    Read Black Lagoon anyway.

Full Ahead! is the only manga meeting that description. It has good art, pretty detailed. I just don't really care for the characters or general idea. I would like a historical type seinen about piracy, preferably done by Yukimura. One can only dream...
