Can't I Expect A Chance Encounter In The Dungeon?

    Author: Fujino Omori
Illustrator: Suzuhito Yasuda (Durarara!!, Yozakura Quartet, Devil Survivor series)

Six volumes are out in total so far in Japan and the first volume was released in English by Yen Press earlier this month (which I've bought).

Anyone else following this? Its been one of my favorite series since I started reading it earlier this year. The concept of Gods/Familia/The Dungeon, the cast of characters, and all around writing has made this an extremely fun series to read through.

At the moment, I'm anxiously waiting for volume 5 to be translated because from what people have said its the next best volume in the series with the newly released volume 6 being the best overall.

Slowly making my way through the first volume. Bell is one of the few LN protagonists who manage to remain not irk me. :hurr

As usual, the writing style of the LN leaves much to be desired but part of that can be placed on the translation I suppose. Given that the premise is interesting enough so far and that the characters are likable enough, I'll continue reading further.

Is Bell less boring in the LN? Because he's pretty boring in the manga.

Yeah, I'll fix the link when I get the chance.

I thought you would feel that way. He manages to not be annoying like a lot of MCs in LNs tend to be while also not being another Hyoudou Issei or Rudeus Greyrat.

I believe so. He really starts to shine in volume 3 where as in volume 1 and 2 he is still getting a feel for himself as an adventurer and the dangers involved in it. As well as his growth into the kind of adventurer/person he wants to be. I believe he only gets better from there.

Volume 7 cover. 496 pages total. All of my hype! :bury

Ishtar family is supposed to be heavily featured in this one and Freya was supposedly said to be the antagonist for this volume at the end of volume 6's preview. She and Ishtar are both Goddesses of Beauty so I guess there is a rivalry going on there.

I can't wait for April 14th since we should start getting spoilers shortly after the volume hits stores. :yay

Volumes 5 and 6 aren't translated yet. When they come out they will likely be posted where the DMCA notices aren't likely to reach or have much effect ie not on Wordpress blogs.

Just recently started with this, more like caught up with the manga translations which are at chapter 30. How much of the novel does it cover?

The manga just finished covering up to the last chapter of volume 2 and a bit of the epilogue. Next up is probably more bits of the epilogue and the start of volume 3. Getting through that volume will probably take a while so you can basically start from volume 2's epilogue or the prologue of volume 3.

    -edit-

After a re-read, the manga definitely covered some of the first chapter of volume 3 in chapter 30. Outright starting with volume 3 should be fine and its where this series really takes off anyway.

Yeah, the first 4 novels managed to be about average in length or a bit shorter compared to other light novels. Contrasting that, volumes 5, 6, and especially 7 are pretty thick reads. I can't wait for them to be translated. :bury

You should definitely do another re-read. I find myself doing so for various parts of the novels and the entire novels themselves when I have the time.

A lot of people don't know because I think this is probably the best job Yasuda has done in terms of designing his characters in a diverse manner. When you compare his other works you can see so many character similarities but this is the harder one to figure that out for.

Yup, I've got you covered. :skysun

Volume 5 isn't fully translated yet and neither is volume 6 unfortunately.

Yeah at first when Theodane took over it seemed like we were going to get translations faster than under JN but at the moment it is probably the same speed anyway. Translating novels is harder work than translating manga so we just have to be patient. :-(

Volume 7 is a couple of days away from hitting book shelves and it looks like some information is starting to come out. Information thanks to Kunagisa:

    Spoiler: image from volume 7

This is Phryne, a Level 5 Amazoness (which only has females ...) from Ishtar Familia.

    Spoiler: Spoiler from volume 7
Ottarl confirmed the only Level 7 in Orario.
Apparently Hestia Knife's loan was so big that it prevented/discourged people from joining.
    Cassandra and Daphne didn't join.
Haruki/Haruhime (whatever the pronunciation of her name is) has a rare Magic that allows her to temporarily boost a person's Level by one (WTFFFFFF?! And you guys say Bell's OP).
She also joined at the end of the volume.

Best bet until it gets DMCA'd to hell and back and word press eventually removes it. Theodane's blog is supposed to be doing volume 5 and beyond but he ran into some technical difficulties. I don't know when he will get to translating/updating the rest of it.
