The number of countries in the world has been increasing since World War 2, as past empires crumble into smaller and smaller pieces. We'll see where it stops.
Over time maybe current countries will continue to disintegrate until most major ethnic groups all have their own country.
I wish them the best of luck.
I fully expect the Catalan Countries, Galicia and the Basque Country to get independence sometime in the near future, especially if the other independence movements are empowered by Catalonia leaving.
When I get home I wanna start a "H?lsingland Independence Party" and fight for my province's independence from Sweden!
I'm sure it would be a hit.
And how many of the small countries survive to the point they are not pawns of the bigger nations who will use their influence and clout to try to make said smaller nations to do their bidding. Whether it is put in military base or favourable trade deals in which the larger nation rips off the smaller.
Coincidentally, I approve of the development of these new future puppet states for Murika. Dance, puppets! Dance!
This is why we keep an eye on this. We already own a part of Catalonia.
