The Yamanaka Clan
Name Meaning: ‘In the middle of the mountain’
Notable members: Ino Yamanaka, Inoichi Yamanaka
The Yamanaka clan runs a florist and specialises in manipulating and confusing the minds of their opponents. They can even read people’s minds and communicate with each other telepathically, making them a valuable asset to an interrogation squad. The way they can control others’ minds also makes them accomplished spies and scouts, as they can even use animals for their own purposes. Two common characteristics in the clan are blond hair and blue, pupil-less eyes.
The Yamanaka clan has a special bond with the Nara and Akimichi clans. For at least two generations, a member from each of the three clans has joined and formed the “Ino-Shika-Cho” trio, which can effectively take down its opponent(s). The Yamanakas are the ‘Ino’ part of the trio.

The Nara Clan
One of the most influential clans of Konoha, the Nara clan is known for their manipulation of shadows and tending of deer, which graze in a large area of the Nara clan forest. At least for the last two generations the Nara members are well known for being quite lazy but geniuses at the same time. They also love playing shougi and the men are apparently attracted to “strict” women. Despite their apparent laziness they are well trusted and admired by the entire village for their superior intellect and great devotion to the ideals of Konoha. As a result they play many important roles in the village. Notably, Nara Shikaku is the jounin representative at the council of the daimu (feudal lord) of fire country. And his son Nara Shikamaru is considered the sharpest mind of his generation and is a brilliant tactician which is attested to by jounins far superior to him in rank and even by the proudest and strongest clans of Konoha such as the Hyuuga clan.

The Akimichi Clan
The Akimichi clan are one of the four noble clans of Konoha, along with the Hyuuga, Uchiha and Aburame clans. If they could be summed up in one word, it would be 'big'. Big shinobi, big stomachs, big hearts, big hair, big loyalty – and big appetites, of course! At first glance, they appear to be nothing more than a clan of fatties who only care about where their next meal is coming from. But that's only part of the story. The Akimichi eat a lot for a reason, that being that they convert calories into chakra. This, combined with their size, makes them formidable opponents.
We've only seen two members of the Akimichi clan in the manga, these being Chouji, one of the three members of Team 10, and his father Chouza, the head of the clan. It goes without saying that Chouji and his dad are the 'Chou' part of the InoShikaChou trio, the generation-spanning combination which also features members of the Nara and Yamanaka clans. They are also the 'muscles' of the team, with their incredible strength, ability to grow to an enormous size (Baika no Jutsu), enlarge parts of their bodies (Bubun Baika no Jutsu), and their three coloured soldier pills, including the deadly red pill – the antidote to which is created by the Nara clan.
As well as being big and strong, Chouji and Chouza are kind, loyal and extremely brave men who will risk their lives for the ones they care about, be it their comrades or their families. It could well be that these characteristics extend to the clan as a whole. Their size may slow them down, but cross them at your peril. And don't, whatever you do, call Chouji fat!
