Hi Apr 23, 2016

Rocky was last seen:

Yep which is why I felt like recommending it haha.

It's a workplace drama pretty much tailor made for people in their early to mid 20's starting on their careers. Start is slow but the payoff towards the latter half is brilliant.
    2. Ersa
Rocky, give Shirobako a watch sometime.

      I think it's something you'd absolutely love.

The line "Orochimaru appeared to be the big spoon in the relationship" was hilarious, even if it does conjure up some rather disturbing mental images.

      Lol nvm about Sasori.

Lol, I figured you just hadn't gotten that far yet. :lmao

Probably a good idea. But it was kind of my fault this time because I had left the charger in front of the screen between the keyboard- otherwise it would have been fine.

But it will be nice to be able to visit the forums again.
    6. FlamingRain
Somewhat busy. I could have been posting anyway but my computer screen got busted when family was over for my sister's graduation party and I didn't feel like driving to the store in another town to get it fixed; but since my sis is on campus and I got the password from my mom I can use her laptop.

    7. DaVizWiz
      Thanks for the rep

Hey, do you have the viz translation for the page before last in chapter 506 (the one where Kisame's talking about Asa Kujaku and Gai first opens the seventh gate)? Specifically, I'm looking for Kisame's explanation on Asa Kujaku's mechanics and he calls Gai a rare beast or something.

Well there's this AWFUL poster called Rocky. He's legit the worst poster on the forum. And he always gets nominated. He thinks the Raikage is amazing, even though he sucks. Basically Rocky is just a basic bitch

I think your question in the Jiraiya thread is interesting to break down, so i'll do that here. Let's pretend Jiriaya could just pop into SM, true not much changes for Jiriaya, but a-lot changes for Naruto. Why? Because if someone could just enter SM in an instant, than users wouldn't need to stand still to gather natural energy, and Naruto could maintain his SM throughout the entire battle w/o using clones (and therefore limiting himself). Naruto w/ SM that stays active the entire battlefield would have been way too powerful for that point in the story. So from a literary standpoint that mechanic had story importance, just not as much for Jiriaya.

It was also there to build tension, and no it doesn't build as much tension to have Base-Jiraiya cornered and than pop SM, as it does if Jiriaya has to stall out his enemy long enough to enter SM and it comes down to the wire.

      Why do you keep trying?

      Why would you think that?
    22. Matty
On point with that SM Jiraiya post :lmao

      Had me laughing

      Rep appreciated as usual. :quite

I really don't think it's hard to figure out what Kishimoto thinks in most instances. People make it difficult by overcomplicating discussions, by putting their own opinions on how strong a Jutsu and character should be, before how effective a Jutsu and character have been portrayed in the manga. For example in the 3T Genjutsu thread, people are like X should be able to do Y w/ 3T Genjutsu to defeat Z, but in reality 3T Genjutsu has basically been a non factor against High-Tiers in the manga, and even just skilled Jonin like Zabuza have hard countered it with minimal knowledge and preparation. Clearly Kishimoto's intent isn't for 3T Genjutsu to be some powerful triumph card against more skilled Ninja, no matter how much people think it should be.

Again no offense but you do a similar thing with Ei's RNY and Speed. You think if Ei used that shit as effectively as he could he could wreck a-lot of people based on shown feats, and thus place him very highly, but if you look his actual track record in the manga, it's not nearly that good. He was fought to a draw by Beginner MS-Sasuke, and while I was willing to give him a pass for that, he is then used as hype tool for Minato and upstaged by Base-B, and than does not at all live up his title of Leader of the Gokage alliance, being upstaged by Onoki and Tsunade against Madara. To me that makes it clear that Kishimoto's intent for Ei's strength does not align properly with how strong, Ei's abilities seem to you.

And I'm not saying your wrong, I also think Ei could effectively be a beast if he used his abilities more wise, but I think the same thing about a-lot of characters, it just comes down ultimately to whether Kishimoto allows that to happen IC. For example, imo Hanzo's poison breath is one of the most broken abilities in the manga period, but depending on the timing in which Hanzo decides to remove his mask, his poison breath could range from an nigh unbeatable GoaT ability to one that is a non-factor in most fights. Given the immense hype Kishi gives Hanzo, I tend to give him the benefit of the doubt that he will use this ability effectively when push comes to shove, but in reality the ability may be a non factor, and Hanzo could hold his hype for another reason entirely.

I almost feel like NBD should be split into two sub forms, one where we discuss how strong characters are meant to be and who would actually win in a fight in the Manga; and another sub form where we discuss how strong characters should be based solely on shown feats and them utilizing those feats to the best of their abilities.
    25. Turrin
To me that's absolutely what happened, Kishi forgot about Taijutsu and over compensated through Gai
    26. Turrin
I like Gai, but I don't think his character arc is anywhere near as great as Jiriaya's, it's average imo, which is better than most Naruto characters, but well bellow Jiriaya's arc which is actually very good.

I think Nagato is on another level than Jiriaya, I just think Jiraiya is on par with Minato, Itachi, etc.. (or slightly weaker in Minato's case).

I think CQC is overrated in the NBD, and while I enjoy Taijutsu fighters too, Ei's Taijutsu isn't nearly as entertaining as Lee's or Gai's. As far as Kishi goes he definitely forgot about Taijutsu, and the overpowered Nature of 8th-Gate seems almost like his attempt to make up for it at the last second.Trying to magically justify it being anywhere near equal to Ninjutsu and Genjutsu.
    27. Turrin
Jiraiya is the best character Kishimoto created imo, from beginning to end; granted he isn't going up against steep competition because Kishi fucked up most of the characters in the final arcs, but still he is a solid character w/ a great character arc in a manga that largely went to shit.

But if your talking about from an NBD perspective, my appreciation for the character has nothing to do with how I rate him, as I appreciate plenty of other characters I wouldn't rate as highly, such as Zabuza, Konan, Sasori, etc... I rate Jiriaya highly because the manga clearly does, with all the hype Kishimoto gave him and essentially Jiraiya standing tall as the perfect example of Kishimoto's ideals for what a Ninja should be. Plus he has a very powerful move-set when discussing most NBD match ups.

PS- I don't get why you are a fan of Ei though, like at all, not to be rude, but like really why? Like I understand being a fan off him in the Kages Arc, I was too, but the dude was trolled hardcore after that, like to the point where i'm pissed at Kishimoto for his treatment, but there are so many character Kishimoto trolled worse that, yah know Ei falls by the wayside.

Try Hyouka. It's a very pretty anime (KyoAni tend to be very good in this department) with a similar premise to some of the other ones you've watched, but with less focus on romance. It's more of a pure slice of life.

There's also Kokoro Connect, which probably hits all the points you're looking for on top of being very emotional in places. Unfortunately, it also ends on a cliffhanger with no season two in sight because of internal studio drama. It also heavily features supernatural elements, if you're okay with that. I'd recommend Hentai Ouji to Warawanai Neko for similar reasons, although I think it's an inferior choice.

For newer stuff, I'd definitely suggest checking out Sodatekata. It's of the rare type where all the girls are almost equally likable, and I rather like the art/animation style, too. It might be worth giving Bokura wa Minna Kawaisou a try as well, but it's nothing particularly special, in my opinion.

Is that enough for you? :LOS

Hey Rocky, congratulations on winning the MOTM contest! Let me, Kai, or AS know which prize you want.
    33. LostSelf
Yes, you are. And i'm proud. I would've chosen Gai, but Ei is pretty good, too :maybe.
    34. LostSelf
"Mmm, i feel like debating with Rocky today... But what can i do for him to know that? Oh, yeah. I'll say something about Ei"

Now i know the spell to summon you :lmao.
    35. Ryuzaki
      Thanks, appreciate it.

You might be, I mean there isn't much to do else really. I pretty much watched every tv show already. For the holidays, I might be here and there but, definitely going to spend some time with the family before I set back out again :datass
    36. Ryuzaki
Most school related, starting pediatrics on the 28th, I'll be trimming my time here down by a great deal, I have to prep and find an apartment in the process.
    37. Ryuzaki
Thanks for the rep man, appreciate it. I won't be as active as before now though, hospital stuff coming up.
    38. DaVizWiz
Well, at least he'll be 29 with the same third injury, and not 36 with the same injury three times in a row :cat (four times in a row if we count the collar bone injury he'll get mid season next year)

Tony Romo signed a 6 year, $108,000,000 contract with the Dallas Cowboys, including a $25,000,000 signing bonus, $55,000,000 guaranteed, and an average annual salary of $18,000,000.

Playoff wins in entire career: 2

And you have nerve to talk about overpaying any quaterback...

Let alone a young injury prone one...

With that old ass, injury guaranteed (two major injuries (the same one).... in four games :psyduck), no-nfc championship appearance in entire career, scrub making BANK in less than a quarter season (3 1/4 games played) quarterback..
    39. DaVizWiz
      How bout them cowboys :cat

      How bout them eagles :cat
    40. DaVizWiz
Now they know Ei's tanking and strength caps just by looking at the sig

      You're welcome :blinditachi
    41. DaVizWiz
Lol is the sig to mock me or just for shits?

    42. DaVizWiz
Stephen A gave Eagles best chance at winning NFC East.

Guess the cowboys are headed to the playoffs :blinditachi
    43. DaVizWiz
First of all, we have three championships, our third the year your team entered the league, and went 0-12 :psyduck. Just because it was before the superbowl era, doesn't mean it didn't happen. You can say that was 50 odd years ago, I can say you weren't even alive the last time Dallas won a Superbowl :psyduck So it's literally no different :psyduck

Second of all, as a fan, I would rather have my team be relevant at times during the last 20 years and my childhood, then to have won more championships than my rival team -> before I was even born (you) :psyduck

Third of all, winning percentage means absolutely nothing, the only thing that matters is winning in prime time, which the Cowboys have not done for the duration of your existence in this universe. They lose when they're suppose to lose, they lose when they're favored to win, it doesn't matter the team or matchup- they lose because they're not winners, and they haven't come close to the superbowl.

Fourth, the current Patriots, and their run over the past decade and a half, is greater than anything the cowboys have ever done. It's not even close. Tom Brady's record is 170-48 since 2000. That is a 78% winning percentage. In contrast, the dallas cowboys, in 20 years, have had 4 seasons (4 years) where they have double digit win records, and none of those (individual seasons) are above 75%.

Yes, over 15 years, the Patriots have succeeded in averaging a better win percentage than the Dallas Cowboys could manage in any individual season, for 20 years straight :psyduck

When Tom Brady went down during the single season he didn't play, the Patriots went 11-5, which was a better record than 90% of Cowboy's individual seasons in the last 20 years, and when factored into Tom Brady's starts, is still 77% winning percentage, still above any of the cowboy's individual season winning percentages during the past two decades.
    44. DaVizWiz

The giants won the superbowl at 9-7 :wha

Let's not beat around the bush, we know full well the cowboys would never beat the Patriots. They simply aren't the kind of organization to pull off a win on that storied franchise, they're a joke.

You're not beating Aaron Rodgers, you couldn't beat him last year when he was on one leg when you had Tony Romo, you're not beating him on two legs without Tony Romo.

Don't cling onto hope Rocky, even if you win out, Matt Castle isn't going to take you to the superbowl. Your season was over the moment Romo went back down.

In fact, your season was over even when you had Romo, because he's a repeated loser, and a product of a franchise that has done nothing but lose the last 20 years.
    45. DaVizWiz
Bad match ups, we didn't have a corner who could cover Calvin Johnson, dude was several inches taller than our tallest corner.

That being said, the cowboys would never beat the Patriots at home or away, so let's not even get into that.

Prepare yourself for A-Rod, he'll be getting in that ass worse than last year's division playoff game when he was playing on one leg and still bent the cowboys over, and broke their backs all the way to the mountain.

    46. DaVizWiz
Are you implying Buffalo will be an issue... after we beat the New England Patriots, and Tom Brady, who is having the best year of his career, at Gillette Stadium, where the Patriots & Brady were 97-15, oh wait... 97-16 now :lbj

Time to stomp Rex, AKA New England's shadow.

Good luck against Aaron Rodgers the projected GOAT, in Green Bay, where he has almost as impressive a record as Tom Brady in New England.
    47. DaVizWiz
      Congrats on the win

#Thanks for keeping eagles in it :lbj
    48. Ersa

Maybe I'll start wanking speed too :hurr
    49. Ersa
I kind of disagree there, sure it was relatively simple for Minato but he was pressured and he could've lost had his timing just been off. The nature of their techniques made it so whoever won would've made it look easy. And honestly I rank 14 year old Obito more in line with weaker high tiers like SM Jiraiya rather then Minato's level.

Mhm, agreed on the Kisame point. I think flight is a decent counter to super speed actually, Deidara needed warnings to avoid getting blitzed by Sasuke and had a small advantage once he got into the air. If he has a decent starting distance (20-25m) and can distract Raikage with clones then perhaps.
    50. Ersa
Perhaps but generally all-rounders seem to be favoured in the manga. Madara, Nagato, Itachi being some examples. Hm, with a greater starting distance Onoki could probably use clones and golems to get the time to fly away I think. In shorter distances A probably does punt his head off.

It's a two fold approach for me honestly, the idea of Raikage being leagues ahead of Onoki doesn't sit with me. His feats suggest it's possible but just looking at portrayal it seems they were meant to be equals or close. I'm more inclined to believe say BM Naruto or Minato would blitz him and one-shot him because there was a clear gap shown in their portrayal.
