That's hilarious - maybe I should do that. I've tried ignoring them and that doesn't work. By the way we seem to have the strongest team in the Christianity thread I've seen since I've been on. These other guys really know their stuff.

I think we posted the exact same point in different words...

Though the poster he accused of committing the fallacy was someone else. I can't find the other thread so I can't remember who it was.

Yeah, I've been reading a lot about the spiritual disciplines lately. I think it is the missing piece and explains why so many people, including myself at times, can feel like God is distant from them.

I've taken some time to organize my day. I wake up early and develop a plan for the day. Then I read and pray. It helps settle my mind and keeps me focused on what's important.

The fear of the Lord—that is wisdom, and to shun evil is understanding.
    (Job 28:28)

The Bible was not written for or by Amelia Bedelia.

I know you're smart, and maybe you do know what I'm thinking and what I believe. But please, let me say if first so things don't get confusing.

Things to be aware of when debating with me on religion::

    Omnipotence:
My God is the creator of all the universe. He has power over everything, because He created everything. I call this omnipotence because that is what it is (omni = all; potence = power). You can call it whatever you like. I don't care what you think my God should be able to do. He can't create a rock so heavy He can't lift it because that is not a meaningful request. He also can't create a round triangle or carve the purple from the 14th dimension of a unicorn's song. That's not my God; don't talk to me as if it is.
    Faith:
I have faith in my wife's character because I know her & I have good reasons for trusting her. I have faith in my office chair because I have relied on it before & it has not failed me; & because I recognize it is well-made & not in disrepair. This is one legitimate use of the word faith. This is the kind of faith I have in God. I believe He is real because of the logical impossibility of the alternative, and because I have experienced His power directly in my life & the lives of others. These reasons, whether good or bad, are what my faith is based on.

There is another kind of faith; "blind-faith". Those who have blind faith believe in something without having sufficient justification or in the face of evidence to the contrary. Some claim it is a great virtue to hold this kind of faith. This is also a legitimate use of the word faith; but it does not apply to me. Don't talk to me as if it does.
    God's Freewill & Foreknowledge:
God has freewill. He knows what He will do because He decided to do it. He always does what He decides to do because He never makes mistakes.

I posted this on one of the threads, but it's more convenient as a reference for me to post it here.

The Bible says, "God is one" (Deuteronomy 6:4, Mark 12:32, Galatians 3:20), and, "there is no other" (Deuteronomy 32-40, 1 Kings 8:60, Isaiah 44:6-8, 45:5,6,14,18,22, 46:9, Joel 2:27, Acts 4:12), among other confirmations (Isaiah 43:10, John 17:3, 1 Corinthians 8:4-6). Yet the Bible also teaches that there are three distinct personalities within God. How do we...

This is part of a post on why creating humans with freewill but without the possibility of evil is impossible. The common misunderstanding of the concept of omniscience is a pet peeve of mine (along with the misunderstanding of the concepts "omnipotence" and "God" - verses "god").

Omniscience is literally, to possess "all-knowledge". So if God really is omniscient, then He must possess all knowledge. But there are certain things that we would...
