Kinetic & Potential Energy: Tsunamis, Whitebeard and Aokiji

Just a quick energy blog. I'm going to work out the kinetic energy of one of the tidal waves, and in turn use that to determine the kind of energy we're dealing with when it comes to the Former Marine Admiral.

Here are some formulae to calculate the speed of a tidal wave:

My source: http://oceanworld.tamu.edu/resources...apter16_01.htm

c = speed
k = wave number
g = well, gravity
L = wave-length

The first formula will be used to find the wave number.

k = 2(pi)/3023 = 0.00207846024055

The next one will be used to find the speed. The reason why we have to use this one and not the other one is simple. The depth is much, much larger than the wave length itself. The water isn't at all shallow.

c = sqrt(9.81/0.00207846024055) = 68.70109245857741672219418757875024 m/s

Ke = 1/2*mv^2
= (0.5)*(1421487090490)*(68.701092458577416722194187 57875024)^2
= 3354595889218656.528608764201938792671411724387314 3J or 801.767659947 Kilotons of kinetic energy

Still near to 1 megaton, so not too bad I guess.

Aokiji stopped it in its tracks with a casual freezing attack, well he stopped TWO of them in their tracks. Aokiji would have to do work in the opposite direction to stop them in their tracks like that, and he did just that. Lol at anyone getting out of Aokiji's ice.

Whitebeard also added that amount of energy to the system in the first place, so yeah, he gets the benefits also.

We aren't quite done yet though, that's only one half of the story. Whitebeard would also have to put potential energy into the system to cause the tsunamis to rise in the very first place.

The above article explains quite well how tsunamis are formed using potential and kinetic energy to explain.

Pe = mgh = (1421487090490)*(9.81)*(927.01) = 12926958255477873.369J or 3089.617173871 Kilotons of potential energy

Total Enegy = Ke + Pe = 3891.384833818 Kilotons or 4 Megatons

Nice one up to my calculation.

Came out decently higher.

So does this confirm the Admirals to be at least City level in terms of destructive capacity?

Now I'm expecting someone to calc the energy that went into Whitebeard tilting the entire ocean, and Marineford itself.

That Marineford tilting feat is up next

That feat is gonna be mind-boggling once the numbers come in.

This also Applies to Whitebeard GM.

The energy behind both the mass and speed had to come from somewhere and all.

This one also seems more reliable than Brohan's version. I'm not sure about projectile motion being used on liquids and all.

Interested to see how you're going to do that Brohan.

Ah yes, the potential energy given to the tidal waves has to be equal to the kinetic energy, which Whitebeard gave to the system.

I wonder if it'd be possible to figure out how fast Aokiji could shoot his ice from this as well.

Probably not due to perspective issues in regards to how far the tsunami traveled, but something to look into I guess.

Was just going to suggest that.

Do we really need that with the Van Augur calc though? It's only a matter of time until somone reacts to those.

IIRC, Ace kind of did already.

Hmm, on second thought. The velocity isn't as easy as that to find. Might need to edit this.

Good luck looking into that.

Can't say I'd know where to look myself.

Done .

I forget, but what is wavelength in regards to like a sound wave or whatever?

That'd be what this is basically IIRC, given a wave can be compared to a sound wave in regards to how they behave.

I think. Not sure how to explain this better.

Distance between two peaks or troughs. In this case there's only one one peak.

Thanks for the reminder.

Lol at anyone getting out of Aokiji's ice.

Would we be able to use this to find out the energy of Raigou?

Would be interesting too see what the numbers would be for that.
Posted 03-13-2012 at 08:42 PM by Thdyingbreed Thdyingbreed is offline
Why would you use KE for Raigou ? You'd probably need to find the total volume of Upper Yard and then apply the pulverization number to find yield (idk if it IS pulverization, but then again, idk how the fuck electricity is supposed to erase an island in the first place .. and vaporisation probably needs higher temperatures then lightning can give + it'd give an outlier number)

I don't know I just assumed it would work for this as well, since I don't really have any knowledge on this stuff.

I don't really care I just want to see what the number would come out too for Enel's Island buster.

But why would it be considered an outlier?

just clarifying - he used both hands, so 2 quakes to create the tsunamis ? 800 Kt is that for both quakes together then ?

also where did you get the mass from ? And again - that's the mass of both waves ?
